Description:
There's a reason real Mercedes-Benz 500K cabriolets cost $10 million, but sadly, that puts one of the most beautiful cars of all time out of the reach of most enthusiasts. But thanks to Heritage, you can own the next best thing, this lovely reproduction that features a strong-running Camaro drivetrain and the same luscious curves that make the original such a highly-sought collectable. Unlike many replicas, this one gets the proportions almost exactly right. The flowing fenders, the long hood with a raked-back grille, and the lovely rear deck with externally-mounted spare tire all look right on this Heritage convertible. The finish is high-grade as well, with straight panels and excellent detailing such as the character line that extends from the hood to the rear fenders. The light tan paint job does an excellent job of letting the dramatic shape speak for itself, although it's no secret that these are cars for extroverts. Rear-hinged doors open like the originals and make getting in and out easy, and someone spent a great deal of effort to replicate details like the chrome side pipes, running board trim, and delicate bullet-shaped taillights. Everything remains in good condition thanks to the low miles, and if it's attention you seek, this car delivers. Inside it's as luxuriously appointed as a modern Mercedes, with leather seating, A/C, and a modern stereo system. The beige leather complements the exterior, keeping the look subtle yet sophisticated, and it remains in excellent condition. A dash pad has been custom stitched and the beautifully formed instrument panel is a completely custom job that puts the gauges in the center. Black carpets anchor the interior, and help to hide the automatic transmission shifter in the center, and there's a matching black leather-wrapped steering wheel with a custom Mercedes-Benz horn button in the center. The decklid, which carries a full-sized spare tire and wheel assembly, lifts to reveal a very nicely finished storage compartment complete with a set of tools and bound carpets. A 1978 Camaro gave its life for this Mercedes replica, but it's a noble sacrifice. The 305 under that long, long hood delivers smooth, reliable power befitting a car of this stature. In all reality, this Camaro-powered version is probably worlds faster and far easier to drive on the streets, but you'll probably have the same problems with curious onlookers gawking and waving. The engine bay is tidy and neat, with lots of new equipment, including a fresh alternator and new belts and hoses. It runs beautifully, and thanks to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, it glides effortlessly through traffic. The custom ladder frame is robust to ensure a complete absence of squeaks and rattles inside, and the single exhaust is suitably muted. Four new wire wheels and wide whitewall radials have recently been fitted, and look exactly right inside those flowing fenders. We can guarantee that this 500K will attract just as much attention as the original for a fraction of the price. Call today!
