Description:
1932 Nash Miller Ambulance. This unique vehicle is a 1st series Nash Ambassador Cutom body by Miller, 990 series, Limousine Ambulance, Miller labeled this model (Adams Senior) and is the only one built in 1932. It is believed that three smaller 980 series models were built (Admas Junior). None are known to have survived. The running gear and chassis were designed and built by Nash Motors, Kenosha, Wisconsin and the custom body an dframe extension were hand crafted over a three month perior by Miller Company Bellafontaine, OH. Millers custom work is estimated at $3000 on top of the $1800 cost of the Nash car base. This would translate to well over $1,000,000 in todays dollars. Miller extended the frame 24in and fastened the extension with rivets. The hand crafted body is nailed over and oak and ash frame. The wheels are made of hickory. When new the ambulance was a combination unit an dwas specially ordered by the OB Davis Funeral home of Port Jefferson, New York. The unit was in service about four years when it was donated to a local fire department for pure ambulance use (it was repainted bright red) and was in service through the early 1960s. After going out of service it passed through 5 owners and wound up with its current owner who completeley restored it to its present condition. The oil change sticker at that time (1987) showed mileage to be 43,959 which is only 500 miles less than when it was begun to be restored in 1987. Now it reads approx 48,800 ( I originally read it as 18,800 miles but it was dark in the cab and I guess I need glasses). In August of 1993 she was used in the movie (Two Bits), but like many actresses she wound up on the cutting room floor. The gurney is from 1933 the sink and cabinetry were duplicated from factory photos. The lights inside and outside work as does the vintage siren and hand operated bell....interor....vintage emergency road lighting 1 way radio, folding sink in the cabinet. The engine is a straight 8, overhead valves, twin ignition, 299 CIDk, 115hp, full pressure lubrication, forged aluminum rods, aluminum piston, full length water jacketing, and a chrome nickel engine block.
