Description:
Fear not, Ford lovers, this amazing 1940 Ford convertible coupe is just a mirage, a figment of the designer's imagination, and no real Fords were harmed in its construction. The original art-deco shape of the 1940 Ford is so timeless, that reproducing it in fiberglass is a natural choice, and when that leads to spectacular rods like this, who can argue? Actually, the front clip is steel, and the dramatic V-shaped grille, slick headlights fared into the fat fenders, and the pointed, shaved, and nosed hood all work together to create one of the most distinctive cars ever built. But to bring it into the 21st century, there are a ton of modifications, including shaved trim and door handles, a 1-piece windshield, and a smooth monochromatic look that will never go out of style. The paint is Porsche Mars Red, and after being applied to the laser-straight bodywork, it was vigorously polished and buffed to an eye-watering shine. Other cool details include the gently arced stainless steel bumpers fore and aft that look entirely appropriate on the fat-fendered Ford, LED 1940 Ford taillights, and brilliantly chromed details like the grille and headlight rings. Inside, the tan leather interior is like artwork. Building on a pair of buckets from a mid-90s Thunderbird, the Kip Love stitching creates a one-of-a-kind driver's compartment that's as comfortable as it is beautiful. Ostrich skin inserts in the seats and door panels add some texture, and even things like the door handles and speaker grilles are artistically designed to fit into the look rather than added like afterthoughts. There's a custom center console with controls for the power windows and a pair of cupholders, and a billet tilt steering column has been topped by a matching leather-wrapped banjo-style wheel. Gauges by Auto Meter and VDO offer an updated take on a 1940s design, and the center stack is stuffed full of Kenwood AM/FM/CD/DVD player with built-in touch screen that doubles as a back-up camera. This top-of-the-line rod also includes hidden A/C that was just installed a few weeks ago. Overhead, a new black canvas convertible top was just installed and fits extremely well. Even the trunk is masterfully finished! Power comes from a 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 hooked to a 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission. It makes great hot-rod sounds and moves the big ragtop with ease. There's an Edelbrock carb and intake, block hugger headers, and a beautiful finned aluminum air cleaner and valve covers for a traditional look. Everything that could be polished or chromed has been, and it all works even better than it looks. Underneath, a Fat Man Fabrications front end offers rack-and-pinion steering, disc brakes, and coil-over shocks. In back, a Ford 9-inch on a 4-link suspension and another set of coil-overs makes for a smooth ride that really hooks up. Rounding out the chassis are a set of 17- and 18-inch Boyd Coddington wheels wearing low-profile rubber. A fully-sorted, classic rod for a fraction of the build price. Call today!
